Being an everyday missionary and fulfilling the great commission basically means that we should all be sharing Christ with our neighbors.

Calvary Local Missions aims to connect you with opportunities to be an everyday missionary right here at home.

Alabama Baptist Children’s Home

The purpose and mission of Alabama Baptist Children’s Homes & Family Ministries is to provide homes for children and offer professional counseling, educational services and family assistance to those in need.

Ways to serve:

  • Do grounds and yard work at the home one Saturday per month
  • Purchase food and cleaning products for the home once per month
  • Assist with fundraising events
  • Be an academic tutor to a child in the home

Harbor Church

The purpose and mission of Harbor church is to provide programs such as Celebrate Recovery, provide Saturday meals with Bible studies, offer Wednesday night church services, participate in the Adopt-a-Block outreach program, and provide job placement and mentoring services to those in need.

Ways to serve:

  • Prepare and serve breakfast one Saturday per month
  • Lead worship or a small group during Saturday worship service
  • Be a van driver – no CDL required
  • Be a mentor
  • Tutor someone for transitional living

Samaritan Clinic

The purpose and mission of Samaritan Clinic is to provide medical care for those who would not have access to it.

Ways to serve:

  • Provide Professional health, medical, and dental services once per week
  • Provide and serve meals, prayer support or present the gospel once per week

Mentoring Matters

Mentoring Matters is an after school discipleship and mentoring program that pairs community children with an adult mentor. Mentors help them with schoolwork, teach them social skills, and demonstrate to them the love of Jesus.

Ways to serve:

  • Be a mentor and work one-on-one with a student
  • Lead a Bible study class for students
  • Conduct a life-skill class

Dothan Preparatory Academy

The purpose and mission of our adoption of Dothan Preparatory Academy is to provide educational, spiritual, and financial assistance to the students, teachers, and administrators.

Ways to serve:

  • Lead a small group at FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday’s of each month (8:35-9:00am)
  • Be an academic tutor/mentor for a student on site every 2nd and 4th Wednesday’s of each month

Wiregrass Hope Group

The purpose and mission of Wiregrass Hope Group is to provide pregnancy, marriage, character, motherhood, fatherhood, and spiritual education to those in need.

Ways to serve:

  • Mentor one-on-one with pregnancy center & fatherhood program clients in two or three hour shifts
  • Assist with fundraising events
  • Provide administrative assistance in the office (any day/time)
  • Assist in sorting and organizing donations for baby boutique (any day/time)
  • Help make abstinence presentations to middle & high school students (school year)

The Ark

The purpose of the Ark is to disciple individuals so that they can grow in spiritual maturity, discover their God given purpose and live out that very purpose by overcoming addiction, homelessness or other difficult obstacles.

Ways to serve:

  • Assist with construction projects on site
  • Assist in sorting and organizing their donation center
  • Be a mentor
  • Provide transitional training
  • Teach a course at Financial Peace University to the program graduates

Laurel Oaks

The purpose and mission of Laurel Oaks is to provide high quality psychiatric treatment for children and teens ages 4-18 with psychiatric disorders.

Ways to serve:

  • Lead or assist with a small group Bible study on Sunday afternoons
  • Purchase and provide Bibles for the clients

English as a Second Language (ESL)

The purpose and mission of ESL is to provide instruction of the English language with a Biblical emphasis, present the Gospel, disciple and mentor those in need.

Ways to serve:

  • Teach or assist a class on Wednesday evenings at Calvary
  • Sponsor social gatherings or trips
