Thank you so much to the Calvary family for affording Cecilia and me the opportunity to take a sabbatical last month! Our time away was spiritually, emotionally, and physically therapeutic and restorative! As I’ve shared in a couple of messages since I’ve been back, we much enjoyed and were amazed by seeing and walking in the places where the Apostle Paul labored hard for the gospel. Although I must say, it is a bit convicting to be vacationing in the same places where Paul nearly lost his life for the sake of his assigned mission! Nonetheless, it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and we are grateful to you all for your generosity.

As we quickly approach the Fall, here are a few things I’m excited about:

The Insanity of Obedience – This 6-week study begins on Wednesday, August 7th.

From Baptist Press:

Learning discipleship methods from believers experiencing persecution may be a radical concept for evangelical believers comfortable with a highly programmatic style of church, Ripken acknowledges. But discipleship needs to be personal and bring about significant life changes in believers, he says.

True discipleship, coming alongside each other, is messy, inconvenient and rarely goes according to plan, he says, but it is necessary to life transformation and being obedient to God. “Lost people must not be merely the focus of Western workers,” Ripken writes. “Instead, lost people must become their family.”

To build healthy, growing Christians and churches, evangelical believers must open their homes, their lives, their families and their hearts to those who don’t know Christ and those who don’t live according to conservative evangelical principles, Ripken says.

I hope and pray that our time together in this study will help equip and motivate us to become everyday missionaries who practice “insane” obedience to the Great Commission.

Who’s Your One? – We will soon be launching a push for every single Calvary member to prayerfully identify one (or more) person(s) that they will commit to praying for and sharing the Gospel with in the months to come. On any given weekend, more than five million Southern Baptists gather to worship around the country. Can you imagine the impact if every one of us asked God each day to let us lead one person to Christ this year?

Vibrant: Growing Families Where Faith Flourishes – This new teaching series begins on Sunday, October 13.  Our aim is to encourage, equip, and support families to grow in godliness, faithfulness, and usefulness to the Kingdom! We have seminars, workshops, and much practical teaching planned. Be listening and watching for more info to come!

And finally, if you’ve been a bit disconnected from the church family and our times of worship this summer (or for longer), now is a great time to recommit to the fellowship!

… that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. – 1 John 1:3 (ESV)

See you Sunday in worship!
