Is the Great Commission optional? We know it’s not but too many times we miss an opportunity to share with someone we know we should. This class is a simple approach to sharing the gospel with class timeAND on-the-job training. We will learn to use a simple outline and we will go out and visit. Bottom line – this class is about putting our faith into action!
"Walking by Faith: Lessons Learned in the Dark" - by Jennifer Rothschild, facilitated by Pam Gordon. Women's Bible study experience for 7 sessions of small group time. Jennifer lost her eyesight as a teen, but gained something much more valuable — spiritual insight. With wit and wisdom, Jennifer relates some of the challenges in her life from learning to apply make-up to changing a diaper. Yet she speaks not as one who has overcome great hurdles, but as one who like all of us faces them every day. Created especially for women, this interactive Bible study promises to be an eye-opening experience.

SWEET HOME ALABAMA…
It was an absolute joy to be so very close to our own dear folks on a mission trip to the Big Apple for a wonderful, extremely hot week. To once again invest a whole lot of time and talent with our dear brother Andrew Mann and crew in Mott Haven was, as always, eye opening special because you can meet unique people who you can bond with wherever you go. One of my personal top moments of experiences was seeing firsthand how much these precious young ones have grown and matured physically, mentally, socially and spiritually this past year. All year Andrew has shared with me that God indeed was doing a supernatural work in their midst and that is clearly the case. The ten public professions of faith continues to literally blow my mind! Praise God from whom all blessings abundantly flow.
To our dear Calvary family, thank you for all of your valuable time in praying not only for us but also for our servant-hearted team in Haiti this past week. Especially am I grateful to all of our people who invest their time, talents, finances and heart in these annual life-changing mission trips. We also compliment the mission spirit of the whole Calvary family in budgeting annually to help us do missions at home and in every direction on planet earth. You have helped us live out the focus goal to think globally and work locally. Our borders are being expanded and we will constantly claim new territory for the Lord Jesus Christ.
COME BACK HOME…
With a whole lot of coming and going during these hot summer months, we have to be honest and confess that our spiritual edge can become dull and we desperately need some sharpening that only the Lord God Almighty can adequately accomplish. We all need to renew our prayer closet by lifting up our annual WOW (Wonder of Worship) Celebration services on Sundays, August 15, 22 and 29, at 6:00 p.m. with some fine communicators of the good news of God's faithful love. Always remember that this is one of those excellent times to bring a guest and introduce them to how we are attempting to "be church" with the whole Calvary family. Without apology we teach and believe the Word of God as written. We challenge all to love God with your entire being and to attempt to accomplish the goal of loving one another unconditionally. We do not struggle in living out the theme that we love all the people who Jesus loves. Thank the Lord that we have a rainbow of colors with the individuals who step foot on our beautiful campus with great joy. All are valuable, welcome and wanted. Yes, we have some (including your pastor) where extra grace is required.
PULPIT THOUGHTS…
Wow! The second teaching truths from the Bible from Rick Warren's best seller The Purpose Driven Life have both challenged and blessed your pastor but your response has helped to make it an exciting journey and it is with a spirit of great anticipation that we tackle the final three messages. As Jehovah continues to lead we will handle the most difficult topic of purpose number five this Sunday and then two closing challenges the eighth and fifteenth of August. Let us keep praying and expecting Yahweh to do the unexpected.
Your pastor,
Van
FUN FACTS…
God wants all of you.

C.O.M.E.

Thank you for praying for the Haiti mission team. We saw over 500 people in 2 ½ days. We also had a VBS one afternoon. The church we worked with lost their building in the earthquake. It was completely destroyed. We were able to provide comfort and relief from much pain. We were able to provide hope. We were able to let them know that people still cared. The nation is still in great need. There are many church groups still going, still loving. Continue your prayers for that country and for Pastor Garnell Joseph.
Please pray for our Guatemala team. We will be in the country, July 31-August 5. There are 18 of us making the trip. Please pray that many will be saved. Please pray that a mission will be strengthened. Please pray for our protection.
Our ministry to Laurel Oaks is still developing. If you are interested in learning more about this ministry to teens, please contact Heather or Ed in the Church Office, 792-5159.

Music Ministry

God has blessed us with an incredible summer of ministry! We see God working all around us and in so many places that He is giving us the opportunity to minister in His name. What a blessing it is to be a part of a family that seeks to make a difference everywhere we go! Thank you for being a part of what God is doing. Let’s celebrate who God is and what God is doing!
I want to share some great things that are happening as we look forward to this fall in the music and worship ministries:
Celebration Choir – We are back full force on Wednesday, August 4. Our time will be at 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel. We are always looking for additional people who have a heart for this ministry. Come join us and see what God is doing.
Celebration Wind Ensemble – We will be back also on Wednesday, August 4. We will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the Worship Center. We would love new players, so is this an area God is calling you to?
Student Praise Ministries – The plans are in the works for our annual Christmas Project. This will be most unique. There is a place for EVERY STUDENT. Our preview is just around the corner. Stay tuned for the specific date and time. We will be inviting all students and parents to join us as we discover how we can use the gifts God has given to us.
Children’s Choirs – We are blessed to have Debbie H. Smith join us as our Children’s Choir Coordinator. Debbie is such a blessing and she is doing a great job in planning, preparing and doing a bit of restructure for our children’s choirs. We will have our kick-off on Wednesday, August 11. Our start time will be 6:00 p.m. and the age breakdowns and rooms will be coming soon! Parents, here is another great opportunity for your children here at Calvary.
CharACTers – Our drama ministry is in the middle of a renewal and revival. We are seeking out folks who are interested in being a part of this great and unique ministry. Our production team is formulating and the interested folk list is being put together. We would love for you to see how God can use you in this ministry. Contact the music office, 792-5159, for more details.
Let’s worship the living God this coming Sunday!
