REFLECTION…
For several years your pastor has taken pride at what happens in Dothan, Houston County, and in the whole state of beautiful Alabama when we go vote. Without apology I confess to being a political activist because at least a part of where our society is going morally, ethically and practicing the truth from God's Word is somewhat going to be determined by who we elect at every level. We certainly do not need more professional politicians but we desperately need old-fashioned statesmen who cannot be bought because they have integrity and character. We all know that lobbyists are a part of our government landscape and they can influence for good as well as for the darkness of evil. This whole scene for your pastor is not political party democrat, republican or the new influence tea party movement. We need qualified men and women who think and then act on what is right and the very best decision for society as a whole. At times folks are bothered at pastors being too involved in the political process but the truth of the matter, the oft quoted and misunderstood phrase "the separation of church and state" was taken out of a letter from one of our forefathers and is absolutely not a part of our constitution. The fact was that the state was to stay out of the church's business and not the other way around. I will not endorse from the pulpit but will commit to lead our church always to take a strong stand on moral issues such as abortion, stem cell research, gay marriage, gambling or other issues that will harm the fragile, moral fiber of our society. I will speak quickly, passionately and frequently on any cause that violates the best of the Christian life.
Seldom do I quote the mailouts from other pastors but Craig Conner's article from the most recent addition of the First Baptist Church, Panama City, Florida, had four powerful statements that all believers need to hear. 1. The return of a spirit of civility in the political arena. The anger expressed between the political parties today is displeasing to our Lord. We need to spread the truth in a kind way and respect those of differing opinions. 2. The raising up of leaders of integrity who can be trusted and believed. The God who sets up kings and brings down kings can supply us with qualified leaders, if we ask. 3. A genuine revival to come to God's people. Revived churches clean up society. Revived churches start with revived individuals. I am praying for my own revived soul and challenge you to do the same. 4. The salvation of unsaved leaders. Those who promote ungodly ideals are not our enemies; they are our mission field. We may not be able to walk into the White House or Congress and share the Gospel but we can make a difference through our prayers. Above all, let us pray.
RENEWED…
Times flies and unless there is a certain benchmark nailed down, we may not exactly recall an issue. Your pastor believed that we did the "Purpose Driven" sermon series around five years ago but the truth of the matter is that this fruitful focused happened nearly seven short years ago and it is with a great deal of excitement that we travel this teaching path anew beginning this coming Sunday in both morning Worship Celebrations. Okay, four vital requests from my heart and soul to you. Number one, pray for anointing in preparation and presentation and that it will glorify our Heavenly Father. Two, make extra efforts to personally be present weekly with only two absences all summer. Three, re-read the book, chapter by chapter, weekly with me (my enjoyable reading number four). Four, invite and bring numerous guests during these wonderful days.
Your pastor,
Van
FUN FACTS…
To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best.
P.S.
Thank you for your personal prayers for Vacation Bible School 2010 this week.

C.O.M.E.

Columbia Baptist Association, of which we are members, has a wonderful Ministry Center. Many needy people are helped each day. Not only do we send them a monthly donation, our church is involved in food donations, volunteering, and other financial support. Our volunteers worked over 350 hours in the months of March and April. There is a clothing store in the building called “Thee Store.” If you know of some family in need of clothing, you can take them there. The prices are very cheap and the clothing is above average. The pastoral staff wants to express our appreciation for all that Calvary does in supporting this great ministry.
My book is finally here. If you would like a copy, please contact me or come by the Church Office. I willhave them Sunday. For those of you who read it, I would like your input. The email address to respond to is in the back of the book.
Please pray for our mission trips this summer!

Music Ministry

By the time you read this, Vacation Bible School will be just about concluded for 2010. God always shows up BIG during this week. I think that is because we are lifting up His name and are totally focused on sharing God’s Good News. When that happens, God’s presence is shown powerfully. I believe that this is a life lesson for all of us. As we live to honor and glorify God, lift up His name and worship Him in our life, we will know the powerful presence of God in a real and profound way. Another great life lesson from VBS! Make sure you come and be a part of the family night celebration that begins at 5:00 this Sunday, June 13. See a bit of how we have lifted up the name of the Lord and how the Good News has made an eternal difference. Who knows, you might also see another life lesson from all this.

Greetings from our forty-ninth state of Alaska. Thank you so much for all your prayers during our time away. We felt God’s presence during our travel time and we knew that our church family was praying for us. The beauty of God’s creation is beyond words and we realize how fortunate we are to have experienced it first hand. Thank you again to those who shared this very special time together.
