Prayer Partner Prayer Requests for June 2018

Prayer Partner Prayer Requests for June 2018
Pastoral Ministry – Paul Thompson
Please pray for the selection of Elders at Calvary. This process has gone on for over 2½ years and we are getting close to electing our first group of lay elders. Please pray that the right men will be selected and that the church will become healthier as a result.
Please pray for Sarah this summer as she works as camp counselor at Winshape Camp for girls at Mt. Berry in Georgia. Pray that she has a good summer in the Lord for her own sake and that she also has a good and lasting influence on the middle school girls she will be mentoring.
In this season of vacation from school and vacation from work, please pray for me and our staff as we take some time off in the next few weeks. Pray for good family time and for rest and renewal.
And finally, let’s all commit to praying that kids get saved this year during VBS! Pray for the leaders, teachers, and all volunteers, but mostly for the kids who will hear the Gospel.
Executive Pastor – Charles Uptain
Thank you for praying for the staff, our families, and the concerns we mention each month. For June,
Pray for our family ministries as summer is a great time to connect with families and students.
Pray for Vacation Bible School. Especially pray for Wednesday, June 6, as we will present the gospel that morning.
Pray for our India mission team. Tyler Campbell, Key Mahone, and Brooke Searcy will leave June 4 and return June 12.
Pray for June 24-29. Our Students will be participating in Wired and we will be hosting Extreme Camp for 100 kids at Calvary that week.

VBS (June 4-8)
WIRED (city-wide week of discipleship for youth end of June)

Worship Pastor – Matthew Dorsey
Ephesians 1:15–23 (ESV)
15For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, 16I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, 17that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, 18having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might 20that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, 21far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. 22And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, 23which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.
Join me in praying the following for Calvary:
1) let us give thanks for the body of believers called Calvary.
2) for God to give us “wisdom and revelation."
3) that believing this revelation would awaken us to own who we are in Christ; embrace the spiritual inheritance, live the spirit-filled life, and carry the gospel to the nations
4) we would know His amazing power working among us and through us.
5) we would be the holy and spotless bride He has called and purposed us to be.
6) our lives and gathered services would be characterized by joy-filled submission to Christ for the glory of His name.
Personally:
Please pray for our trip to North Carolina this month. We are planning to visit with Elijah’s birth mom as well as my family. Please pray for our house to sell in North Carolina.
The boys are continuing to look at college options and plan to visit more schools this summer. Please pray for God to guide them in education and vocation.
Thanks for praying
Preschool Ministry – Joyce Alexander
VBS—Please pray for the volunteers to be prepared and ready for their kids. Wednesday is the evangelistic emphasis day where the Gospel will be shared. Please pray that the Holy Spirit moves among our children.
Summer—It’s often hard to find volunteers during worship in the summer. This year is proving to be the same kind of difficulty. Please pray for us in Preschool as we search for VIPs to care for the children.
Personal—On June 25 I will be having a total knee replacement on my right knee. Prayers for my wonderful physician and for me as I recover.

Resources for Parents of Preschoolers
By: Amanda Trammell

Here are some of our favorite articles and resources to help you in raising children who love God.
Twenty-Two Six Parenting
Tools for raising kidswho love God and love others.
Put This On Your Calendarfrom Verge Network
"I’ve always been bothered by the amount of time we (me included) are willing to spend planning, prioritizing, brainstorming, etc… as it relates to our business versus the amount of time we are willing to spend doing the same as it relates to our marriage and family. It’s really foolish if you think about it. Compare what we have to lose in both areas. In business, a few bucks. In family, a few generations."
On Mission With Your Children from Verge Network
"No one is better positioned or equipped to share the gospel with a child
than his or her mom and dad. The sheer amount of time spent with
their children gives parents a great opportunity to declare and demonstrate
the gospel consistently. Because parents know their children best,
they also know best how to communicate the gospel to them."
Sanctification And Marriage from Verge Network
"Hear this theology – marriage is a beautiful thing that only reaches what it was designed to
bethrough the methodology of a painful process. You’ll never hear that on a jeweler’s
commercial! The surrounding culture is trying to sell you the kingdom of self,
filled with comfort, pleasure, and ease."
Three Steps To Raising Disciples From The Verge Network
"As a parent, God has entrusted you with a tremendous privilege and responsibility.
The Bible speaks frequently to parents offering encouragement, wisdom and instruction.
Before Shannon and I had kids I remember having a conversation about how we
would be different than our friends who were letting their kids drive the family’s schedule and priorities. We vowedto be different, that was until we actually had our first kid."
Praying With Your Kids From Faith Gateway
"It doesn’t need to be a sermon or full of fancy words likebetrothedandhither.Just say what’s on your mind, “I’m having a hard day God, will you help me?”Then pray for each of the kids. Letting them hear you pray for them is a powerful thing. It shows them that they are loved in a deep and lasting way when mom asks for help from the Father whoknows their deepest heart."
D6Splink Resources
"Splink is a simple way to link your family together spiritually.
Through FREE weekly emails packed with ideas, Splink helps
you and your family engage in conversation. Whether it’s making memories
or having fun together, Splink allows you to capture those teachable
moments to impress spiritual truths and life lessons on your kids.
No matter where you are, there’s always time to Splink!"
Secret Church by David Platt
"When we think of 'church' in America, we think of going to meet at a building, singing, praying and hearing a message from a pastor or teacher. But in many places around the world, "church" meets in a home, an apartment, and sometimes even in secret. Many times there are just a few believers who know and follow Christ.
Secret Church is our 'house church' where we meet periodically for an intense time of Bible study—lasting 6+ hours—including a time of prayer for our brothers and sisters across the globe who are facing persecution and for those who have still not heard the gospel. This is not for the uncommitted or faint at heart. But if you desire to know God more deeply through His Word and know His church more fully around the world, then please join us for Secret Church."

From Our Senior Pastor
By: Paul Thompson

I wonder how many more Christmases I’ll have. We put up the tree a bit early this year. As we did, I began to wonder how many more of these I’ll have to enjoy with my family and my friends and my church. This is not so much a mid-life, pensive or even morbid consideration. It’s really based more of careful observation of people and society around us. This world seems to be in a moral and ethical self-destructive tailspin. If you were trying to write a popular prophecy book 10-15 years ago and described then what we see now, people would probably react incredulously to it. Yet here we are, perhaps on the cusp of the biblical ‘last days’.
And whether the world is nearing its end or not (I’m no prophet, after all), I have a finite number of years of my own to live. And I want those remaining years to count. Jesus said:
“We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work.” (John 9:4). The dawn of this world and the dawn of you and me will come (no way of knowing which will precede the other). But for now, we remain. Opportunity remains. The Church and the power of the Gospel remains. Let’s commit to do all that we can with all that we have and all that we are for as long as we are able to in order to make Jesus known. Let’s do it as everyday missionaries who look for opportunities, leverage our influence, and build relationships – all for the sake of sharing the Gospel. And let’s do it as partners of missionaries who serve the Kingdom of God where the Gospel most needs to go and to those who have not heard (or understood) it.
This Christmas, will you recommit yourself to being light for a dark world? Will you – with urgency – commit to being an everyday missionary and a partner with international missionaries, working while there is still “day” as Jesus said? Will you go across the street or down the hall for the sake of the Gospel? And will you give generously for those who have committed to go across the world for the same? Will you help us reach our goal of $125,000 to support the gospel effort to the unreached?
For whatever number of Christmases we have left, let’s be busy about the Master’s business!
Thankful to be your pastor,
Paul Thompson

Third Circle Resources and Banquet
By: Dan Tankersley

Third Circle Resources and Banquet
If you have committed to the Third Circle, it’s time to pick up your resources! Third Circle resources will be available for pick-up in the Fellowship Center the mornings of Sunday, December 4 and December 11. They will also be available the evening of Wednesday, December 7 in the Fellowship Center. We are providing these resources at no charge, but we will have a donation box if you would like to help offset the cost. If you signed up to have the Calvary staff connect you with another peer, mentor, or mentee, you should hear from someone in early December about those connections.
Please mark your calendar for the Third Circle Banquet on Sunday, January 8, at 6:00 pm in the Fellowship Center. This Banquet is for everyone! Food will be provided at no charge, and you will be given the opportunity to commit to the Third Circle if you haven’t already. This banquet is the launching event to begin the life-on-life relationships you have committed to in the Third Circle. Our guest speaker, pastor Jim Thomas, will be sharing about the transforming power of life-on-life discipleship. Jim is the Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church in Fayetteville, Georgia. He earned a Bachelors of Arts in Religion from Baylor University, a Masters of Arts in Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Ph.D. in Leadership Studies from Dallas Baptist University. Prior to serving at Fayetteville First Baptist, Jim served 15 years as a Student Pastor in Texas, Arkansas, and Mississippi and 8 years as an Executive Pastor in Texas. His passion is to help every believer take personal responsibility for the Great Commission and lead others toward a Christ-centered life.
