Prayer Partner Prayer Requests for April 2019

Prayer Partner Prayer Requests for April 2019
Pastoral Ministry – Paul Thompson
O my God, incline your ear and hear. Open your eyes and see our desolations, and the city that is called by your name. For we do not present our pleas before you because of our righteousness, but because of your great mercy.
- Daniel 9:18
I appreciate much your prayers on behalf my family and me. Here are some things we’d love you to pray for and about this month:
Please pray for Cecilia and me for wisdom and influence as we parent (mostly) adult children who are no longer in our home. As we have long learned, little kids can make little messes with their choices/decisions, but big ‘kids’ can make big messes with theirs. Pray that we would guide them well and that they would listen and respond. And more than responding to us, pray that they would each respond to God’s leadership and that they would desire to please Him in all things.
Please pray for Daniel’s wife Hannah to find a good teaching opportunity in the school systems around Auburn.
Pray for Alex as he makes decisions about his future. Pray also that God would turn his heart/life towards Him.
Pray for Mark and all our decisions regarding him. He is in a time of big transition as he graduates from the adolescent program at Glenwood and is preparing to move into the adult program. He may also have to move houses again (we are praying he doesn’t) as part of this transition. Mark does not typically respond well to big changes and has been struggling lately with increased aggression and self-injury. Please pray for his care, safety, and overall well-being.
And please pray for Sarah to finish out a tough semester well. Pray also for wisdom for her to choose the best among several opportunities she has for this summer.
And pray for Cecilia and me. We are feeling a bit tired – emotionally, spiritually, even physically – and could use some renewed energy in all those areas. I am praying that Romans 12:11 and Galatians 6:9 will be true for us.
Again – thank you for caring enough for us to pray and for trusting the One who has all control enough to ask Him to meet our needs.
Executive Pastor – Charles Uptain
Thank you for continuing to pray for our church and for me and my family.
This month, pray for our Easter weekend services. Pray for guests to hear the gospel and respond. Pray specifically for Pastor Paul as he preaches both the Good Friday Noon Service and our Sunday morning worship service.
Pray for Secret Church on April 26th. Pray God uses David Platt to speak through his Word to us again.
Pray for our church plant, Grace City Church, in Manhattan as they host their first worship gathering on Sunday, April 28th.
Pray for our mission team that will be traveling to Manhattan to help with that service.
Pray for VBS that is right around the corner. We have a big teachers’ meeting on Sunday, April 28th.
Worship Ministry – Matthew Dorsey
What a great day for the Kingdom! This past Sunday as the call went out to be obedient to the gospel, to care for orphans, so many of you responded. Praise the Lord!
There was $4,639 given to the newly established adoption fund. Many agreed to partner with us in ministry to Calvary families adopting or fostering. There are as many as three families starting the process to adopt, and several families signed up to be licensed to foster. Thank the Lord with me for the great things he is doing in our church family!
Please continue to pray about how you and your family can make a difference in the life of an orphan in Houston County or around the world.
Thank you for praying for the sell of our NC house, we are hopeful that it will be finalized mid May. Pray that there would be no hindrances to this contract going through.
Many of you have been praying with our family about college for the boys. I am pleased to announce that they have been able to finalize their college plans for the fall (I will let them share with you what their new colors will be). Praise the Lord with us that the Lord has provided a great opportunity for the boys to further their education.
We love our church family!
Discipleship Ministry – Dan Tankersley
Please continue to pray that our study of 2nd Corinthians will lead the people of Calvary to find increasing joy in Christ. Pray that we will come to a deeper understanding of what it means to be a “new creation” inChristand that we take ownership of our role as His ambassadors and ministers of reconciliation.
Pray for Life Group leaders.
Pray for our Easter service...that guests will come...that the gospel will be shared in the power of the Holy Spirit...and that people will be saved! Pray that for every church gathering, not just Easter ;)
Thank you for praying for my family and my schooling. We welcomed a baby girl (Kate) on March 4th and she, along with the rest of the family, is doing great! Last week I successfully defended my doctoral project, so I'm finished with school!!! Graduation is in May.
Community Ministry
Please pray that Camp ROCK ends well as we close out the year with an end of year trip on April 25th and an end of year program on April 30th. Pray that the kids will finish off the school year well and that they will not quit trying. Specifically pray for “N” and “I” as they will be returned to their biological mother’s custody in May.
Pray that the planning for Extreme Camp goes well. Praise that we have enough volunteers/staff already in place!
Pray for the shift in the school system; specifically for Darius McKay as he transfers to Dothan Prepatory Academy to lead. That we as a church can gather enough volunteers to do what we have been doing to help Darius and the children at a MUCH larger scale (Hence MANY more volunteers needed)!
Pray that the Harbor, the Ark, and the Samaritans Clinic Ministries continue to be effective at reaching Dothan’s homeless community. Pray that our volunteers would form deep relationships with the people in these places and help them grow spiritually as well as improve their everyday life conditions.
Pray that the children in the Alabama Baptist Children’s Home and in Foster Care would receive the love and spiritual guidance that they need to get through this difficult transitional time in their lives.
Pray that women (and their significant other) with unexpected or unwanted pregnancies would find their way to Wiregrass Hope Group and that they would receive the counseling/mentoring that they need to become good parents. Pray for more volunteers to mentor them.
Children’s Ministry – Zach Daniels
Pray for this Easter season and our services. Specifically pray that we will get the volunteers we need in our Children's ministry departments.
Pray for VBS and its impact. Thank youto all who have signed up, but we are still in need of many positions. Please pray God would provide the rest of these people, and consider if He is calling you to be on mission with us during the week of VBS.
Pray for the summer season and all it entails. Specifically pray for Extreme Camp, Summer Camp, and the New Orleans Family Mission Trip.
Pray for our children that come into our care and their families.
Pray for our amazing leaders who are pouring their lives into the Calvary Kids ministry.
Thank youfor praying, faith family!
Preschool Ministry – Joyce Alexander
“If man had his way, the plan of redemption would be an endless and bloody conflict. In reality, salvation was bought not by Jesus' fist, but by His nail-pierced hands; not by muscle but by love; not by vengeance but by forgiveness; not by force but by sacrifice. Jesus Christ our Lord surrendered in order that He might win; He destroyed His enemies by dying for them and conquered death by allowing death to conquer Him.”
? A.W. Tozer,
As we look toward Easter, I’m reminded that the Resurrection is not just an event we celebrate one time a year. What would happen if we began each day reminding ourselves that everything in Christ’s death and resurrection is at our disposal today? How would our perspective change? The power of the resurrection is God’s gift to us. I’m going to lean into all He has given to us. Thank you for partnering with the staff in prayer!
For Life Group—I’m thankful for answered prayers this month—we have regular teachers in Kindergarten and in our oldest two-year-old class as a result of our prayers. Please don’t stop praying. We have one more assistant teacher position to fill—in our three-year-old class. Would you also pray for our teachers to be renewed each week as they prepare and teach? Preschool is hard work and consistency is important. About this time of year, we grow weary and need that extra boost to persevere.
VIPs needed—Please pray that we could recruit more to serve during worship. It does not go unnoticed that it is a sacrifice to not be in service to care for children. We just ask for four times per year. Our young parents do serve but we need 10 volunteers per week to provide the care needed.

Resources for Parents of Preschoolers
By: Amanda Trammell

Here are some of our favorite articles and resources to help you in raising children who love God.
Twenty-Two Six Parenting
Tools for raising kidswho love God and love others.
Put This On Your Calendarfrom Verge Network
"I’ve always been bothered by the amount of time we (me included) are willing to spend planning, prioritizing, brainstorming, etc… as it relates to our business versus the amount of time we are willing to spend doing the same as it relates to our marriage and family. It’s really foolish if you think about it. Compare what we have to lose in both areas. In business, a few bucks. In family, a few generations."
On Mission With Your Children from Verge Network
"No one is better positioned or equipped to share the gospel with a child
than his or her mom and dad. The sheer amount of time spent with
their children gives parents a great opportunity to declare and demonstrate
the gospel consistently. Because parents know their children best,
they also know best how to communicate the gospel to them."
Sanctification And Marriage from Verge Network
"Hear this theology – marriage is a beautiful thing that only reaches what it was designed to
bethrough the methodology of a painful process. You’ll never hear that on a jeweler’s
commercial! The surrounding culture is trying to sell you the kingdom of self,
filled with comfort, pleasure, and ease."
Three Steps To Raising Disciples From The Verge Network
"As a parent, God has entrusted you with a tremendous privilege and responsibility.
The Bible speaks frequently to parents offering encouragement, wisdom and instruction.
Before Shannon and I had kids I remember having a conversation about how we
would be different than our friends who were letting their kids drive the family’s schedule and priorities. We vowedto be different, that was until we actually had our first kid."
Praying With Your Kids From Faith Gateway
"It doesn’t need to be a sermon or full of fancy words likebetrothedandhither.Just say what’s on your mind, “I’m having a hard day God, will you help me?”Then pray for each of the kids. Letting them hear you pray for them is a powerful thing. It shows them that they are loved in a deep and lasting way when mom asks for help from the Father whoknows their deepest heart."
D6Splink Resources
"Splink is a simple way to link your family together spiritually.
Through FREE weekly emails packed with ideas, Splink helps
you and your family engage in conversation. Whether it’s making memories
or having fun together, Splink allows you to capture those teachable
moments to impress spiritual truths and life lessons on your kids.
No matter where you are, there’s always time to Splink!"
Secret Church by David Platt
"When we think of 'church' in America, we think of going to meet at a building, singing, praying and hearing a message from a pastor or teacher. But in many places around the world, "church" meets in a home, an apartment, and sometimes even in secret. Many times there are just a few believers who know and follow Christ.
Secret Church is our 'house church' where we meet periodically for an intense time of Bible study—lasting 6+ hours—including a time of prayer for our brothers and sisters across the globe who are facing persecution and for those who have still not heard the gospel. This is not for the uncommitted or faint at heart. But if you desire to know God more deeply through His Word and know His church more fully around the world, then please join us for Secret Church."

From Our Senior Pastor
By: Paul Thompson

I wonder how many more Christmases I’ll have. We put up the tree a bit early this year. As we did, I began to wonder how many more of these I’ll have to enjoy with my family and my friends and my church. This is not so much a mid-life, pensive or even morbid consideration. It’s really based more of careful observation of people and society around us. This world seems to be in a moral and ethical self-destructive tailspin. If you were trying to write a popular prophecy book 10-15 years ago and described then what we see now, people would probably react incredulously to it. Yet here we are, perhaps on the cusp of the biblical ‘last days’.
And whether the world is nearing its end or not (I’m no prophet, after all), I have a finite number of years of my own to live. And I want those remaining years to count. Jesus said:
“We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work.” (John 9:4). The dawn of this world and the dawn of you and me will come (no way of knowing which will precede the other). But for now, we remain. Opportunity remains. The Church and the power of the Gospel remains. Let’s commit to do all that we can with all that we have and all that we are for as long as we are able to in order to make Jesus known. Let’s do it as everyday missionaries who look for opportunities, leverage our influence, and build relationships – all for the sake of sharing the Gospel. And let’s do it as partners of missionaries who serve the Kingdom of God where the Gospel most needs to go and to those who have not heard (or understood) it.
This Christmas, will you recommit yourself to being light for a dark world? Will you – with urgency – commit to being an everyday missionary and a partner with international missionaries, working while there is still “day” as Jesus said? Will you go across the street or down the hall for the sake of the Gospel? And will you give generously for those who have committed to go across the world for the same? Will you help us reach our goal of $125,000 to support the gospel effort to the unreached?
For whatever number of Christmases we have left, let’s be busy about the Master’s business!
Thankful to be your pastor,
Paul Thompson

Third Circle Resources and Banquet
By: Dan Tankersley

Third Circle Resources and Banquet
If you have committed to the Third Circle, it’s time to pick up your resources! Third Circle resources will be available for pick-up in the Fellowship Center the mornings of Sunday, December 4 and December 11. They will also be available the evening of Wednesday, December 7 in the Fellowship Center. We are providing these resources at no charge, but we will have a donation box if you would like to help offset the cost. If you signed up to have the Calvary staff connect you with another peer, mentor, or mentee, you should hear from someone in early December about those connections.
Please mark your calendar for the Third Circle Banquet on Sunday, January 8, at 6:00 pm in the Fellowship Center. This Banquet is for everyone! Food will be provided at no charge, and you will be given the opportunity to commit to the Third Circle if you haven’t already. This banquet is the launching event to begin the life-on-life relationships you have committed to in the Third Circle. Our guest speaker, pastor Jim Thomas, will be sharing about the transforming power of life-on-life discipleship. Jim is the Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church in Fayetteville, Georgia. He earned a Bachelors of Arts in Religion from Baylor University, a Masters of Arts in Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Ph.D. in Leadership Studies from Dallas Baptist University. Prior to serving at Fayetteville First Baptist, Jim served 15 years as a Student Pastor in Texas, Arkansas, and Mississippi and 8 years as an Executive Pastor in Texas. His passion is to help every believer take personal responsibility for the Great Commission and lead others toward a Christ-centered life.
