From Our Discipleship Pastor
By: Dan Tankersley

THIRD CIRCLE
Our purpose at Calvary Baptist Church is to glorify God by making disciples of Christ who transform our city and world. We aim to be “a family of everyday missionaries who make disciples.”
In order to accomplish this grand purpose, we need a strategy. Thankfully, we have developed a Discipleship Strategy here at Calvary which urges every member to be actively involved in corporate worship, Life Group, and life-on-life discipleship. We believe that if our members engage in all three of these areas, or “Circles,” we will have the best chance of being effective and fruitful in carrying out the Great Commission.
Overall, we are doing well in the areas of corporate worship and Life Group, but we have much room to improve in the area of life-on-life discipleship. Through our Third Circle emphasis, we want to make it as easy as possible for you to engage in life-on-life discipleship. Participants in the Third Circle are committing to one year of life-on-life discipleship in one of these four categories: (See Calvary’s website for more details)
Peer-to-Peer relationship - This is an “iron sharpening iron” approach and would entail two or three people (around the same level of spiritual maturity).
Parent-Child relationship - This category entails parents taking time to intentionally invest into their child/children’s spiritual growth.
Mentoring relationship - This category involves a mature believer mentoring a less mature believer or recent convert.
Unchurched relationship - This category is for the person who has an unchurched/unbelieving friend or family member he or she wants to reach with the gospel.
Throughout the month of October, we have intentionally prayed about how we can be involved in the Third Circle. Now that November is here, it’s time to commit! In December we will prepare for the Third Circle by getting our proper resources, and in January we will begin!
There is a Third Circle table in the Sanctuary welcome area where you can find commitment cards, prayer guides, curriculums that will be used (for display only), and a drop box for turning in your commitment cards. The Calvary staff has an ambitious goal of seeing 500 people commit to life-on-life discipleship in 2017!
I hope you will be involved in the Third Circle because we believe, by God’s grace and by His design, that this discipleship focus will impact God’s Kingdom as it enhances Calvary’s spiritual growth, internal health, outward focus, and preparation for the ministry of the gospel.
In Christ,
Dan Tankersley
