From Our Senior Pastor
By: Paul Thompson

“Initiation is the bottom line of masculinity. It means taking the lead. The lead in providing, protecting, mentoring, and befriending. It means caring for and developing our mates, our children, and ourselves. It means taking the lead in apologizing. The lead in seeking forgiveness. The lead in vulnerability. Masculinity means initiation. C. S. Lewis, as you might expect, said it brilliantly: “God is so masculine, that all of creation is feminine by comparison.”
? Stu Weber, Tender Warrior: Every Man’s Purpose, Every Woman’s Dream, Every Child’s Hope
On Sunday night, October 23rd, we will have perhaps as important a time of worship and challenge as we have ever had. And it’s just for men. We aren’t doing this because we are sexist or misogynistic in any way. We aren’t doing this because we don’t value and love women as we do men. Instead, we are doing this because we believe that God has uniquely given men the responsibility to lead – to lead in passion for God and His Word, to lead in holiness and Christlikeness, and to lead in missional living and disciple-making. We are to be pacesetters and initiators. And we believe we can – and must – do better. We need a revival of masculine Godliness for the sake of our community, our church, our children and grandchildren, our marriages, and our relationships with God.
It is our hopeful expectation and ongoing prayer that God will use this night as a catalyst for real and lasting change for many. We are praying that men will rise up and begin to be the initiating leaders – in every sphere- that God requires and that our families desire.
Here are the details:
Date and time: Sunday night, October 23rd at 6pm.
Location: Fellowship Center
Atmosphere and dress: Casual
Audience: Calvary men (and their guests), age 16* and up.
(Be advised: Because we will address some issues regarding purity and personal holiness with directness and frankness, we don’t advise that you bring your sons who are younger than older high school age.)
Men – please do whatever you can to be here that night. Consider this a wise investment of time in your own spiritual life and health as well as an investment in the spiritual lives that matter most to us all – our families and our church.
I’ll see you there!
- Pastor Paul
