From Our Senior Pastor
By: Paul Thompson

Calvary Family,
Thank you to all who have prayed expectantly with us for God to lead us to a new Discipleship Pastor! After many months of conversations, emails, interviews, and meetings, the personnel committee, church staff, and deacon leaders (past and present deacon chairmen) are excited to announce Dan Tankersley as our selection.
Dan grew up at Calvary and was licensed to ministry here. He went off to school at the New Orleans Baptist Theological seminary where he earned a Master of Arts in Christian Education. From there, he served at Hunter Street Baptist Church in Birmingham before coming back to Dothan and joining the staff of First Baptist Church as Recreation Minister. Dan feels called to Disciple-making and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry degree in that field.
Dan is married to Anna and is the son of Stacy and Lucinda Harrison (and twin brother to Ben). We are so excited to be able to call Dan back home!
As Discipleship Pastor, Dan will lead the adult discipleship ministries of the church. This will include the following:
He will have direct oversight of adult life groups and other small group ministries. He will be a primary facilitator for fostering life-on-life disciple-making opportunities. He will be a primary trainer for leaders and anyone interested in disciple-making.He will assist all other ministries and ministers in implementing sound disciple-making strategies. He will work alongside me and the rest of the staff in leading our church to …have high expectations for all membersbe unified and purposeful in all we dobe outwardly focusedfully implement our disciple-making pathway at every level of church life.Dan will share a bit of his testimony and calling as well as his passion for disciple-making during our morning worship service this weekend. Afterwards, in accordance with our bylaws, we will ask the congregation for a vote of affirmation. I hope you will be here to hear from Dan and show your encouragement and support. Exciting days are ahead!
See you Sunday,
Pastor Paul

Prayer Partner Prayer Requests for June 2018
By: Caren Coleson

Prayer Partner Prayer Requests for June 2018
Pastoral Ministry – Paul Thompson
Please pray for the selection of Elders at Calvary. This process has gone on for over 2½ years and we are getting close to electing our first group of lay elders. Please pray that the right men will be selected and that the church will become healthier as a result.
Please pray for Sarah this summer as she works as camp counselor at Winshape Camp for girls at Mt. Berry in Georgia. Pray that she has a good summer in the Lord for her own sake and that she also has a good and lasting influence on the middle school girls she will be mentoring.
In this season of vacation from school and vacation from work, please pray for me and our staff as we take some time off in the next few weeks. Pray for good family time and for rest and renewal.
And finally, let’s all commit to praying that kids get saved this year during VBS! Pray for the leaders, teachers, and all volunteers, but mostly for the kids who will hear the Gospel.
Executive Pastor – Charles Uptain
Thank you for praying for the staff, our families, and the concerns we mention each month. For June,
Pray for our family ministries as summer is a great time to connect with families and students.
Pray for Vacation Bible School. Especially pray for Wednesday, June 6, as we will present the gospel that morning.
Pray for our India mission team. Tyler Campbell, Key Mahone, and Brooke Searcy will leave June 4 and return June 12.
Pray for June 24-29. Our Students will be participating in Wired and we will be hosting Extreme Camp for 100 kids at Calvary that week.
Discipleship Ministry – Dan Tankersley

Church health, unity, vitality
A disciple-making cultureto continue to take root at Calvary
Transition to church elders
Life Groups and Leaders
Foundation Ministry (Calvary's College Ministry)
Women’s Ministry
VBS (June 4-8)
WIRED (city-wide week of discipleship for youth end of June)
SBC annual meeting in Dallas June 12-13
Worship Pastor – Matthew Dorsey
Ephesians 1:15–23 (ESV)
15For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, 16I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, 17that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, 18having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might 20that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, 21far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. 22And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, 23which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.
Join me in praying the following for Calvary:
1) let us give thanks for the body of believers called Calvary.
2) for God to give us “wisdom and revelation."
3) that believing this revelation would awaken us to own who we are in Christ; embrace the spiritual inheritance, live the spirit-filled life, and carry the gospel to the nations
4) we would know His amazing power working among us and through us.
5) we would be the holy and spotless bride He has called and purposed us to be.
6) our lives and gathered services would be characterized by joy-filled submission to Christ for the glory of His name.
Personally:
Please pray for our trip to North Carolina this month. We are planning to visit with Elijah’s birth mom as well as my family. Please pray for our house to sell in North Carolina.
The boys are continuing to look at college options and plan to visit more schools this summer. Please pray for God to guide them in education and vocation.
Thanks for praying
Preschool Ministry – Joyce Alexander
VBS—Please pray for the volunteers to be prepared and ready for their kids. Wednesday is the evangelistic emphasis day where the Gospel will be shared. Please pray that the Holy Spirit moves among our children.
Summer—It’s often hard to find volunteers during worship in the summer. This year is proving to be the same kind of difficulty. Please pray for us in Preschool as we search for VIPs to care for the children.
Personal—On June 25 I will be having a total knee replacement on my right knee. Prayers for my wonderful physician and for me as I recover.

Resources for Parents of Preschoolers
By: Amanda Trammell

Here are some of our favorite articles and resources to help you in raising children who love God.
Twenty-Two Six Parenting
Tools for raising kidswho love God and love others.
Put This On Your Calendarfrom Verge Network
"I’ve always been bothered by the amount of time we (me included) are willing to spend planning, prioritizing, brainstorming, etc… as it relates to our business versus the amount of time we are willing to spend doing the same as it relates to our marriage and family. It’s really foolish if you think about it. Compare what we have to lose in both areas. In business, a few bucks. In family, a few generations."
On Mission With Your Children from Verge Network
"No one is better positioned or equipped to share the gospel with a child
than his or her mom and dad. The sheer amount of time spent with
their children gives parents a great opportunity to declare and demonstrate
the gospel consistently. Because parents know their children best,
they also know best how to communicate the gospel to them."
Sanctification And Marriage from Verge Network
"Hear this theology – marriage is a beautiful thing that only reaches what it was designed to
bethrough the methodology of a painful process. You’ll never hear that on a jeweler’s
commercial! The surrounding culture is trying to sell you the kingdom of self,
filled with comfort, pleasure, and ease."
Three Steps To Raising Disciples From The Verge Network
"As a parent, God has entrusted you with a tremendous privilege and responsibility.
The Bible speaks frequently to parents offering encouragement, wisdom and instruction.
Before Shannon and I had kids I remember having a conversation about how we
would be different than our friends who were letting their kids drive the family’s schedule and priorities. We vowedto be different, that was until we actually had our first kid."
Praying With Your Kids From Faith Gateway
"It doesn’t need to be a sermon or full of fancy words likebetrothedandhither.Just say what’s on your mind, “I’m having a hard day God, will you help me?”Then pray for each of the kids. Letting them hear you pray for them is a powerful thing. It shows them that they are loved in a deep and lasting way when mom asks for help from the Father whoknows their deepest heart."
D6Splink Resources
"Splink is a simple way to link your family together spiritually.
Through FREE weekly emails packed with ideas, Splink helps
you and your family engage in conversation. Whether it’s making memories
or having fun together, Splink allows you to capture those teachable
moments to impress spiritual truths and life lessons on your kids.
No matter where you are, there’s always time to Splink!"
Secret Church by David Platt
"When we think of 'church' in America, we think of going to meet at a building, singing, praying and hearing a message from a pastor or teacher. But in many places around the world, "church" meets in a home, an apartment, and sometimes even in secret. Many times there are just a few believers who know and follow Christ.
Secret Church is our 'house church' where we meet periodically for an intense time of Bible study—lasting 6+ hours—including a time of prayer for our brothers and sisters across the globe who are facing persecution and for those who have still not heard the gospel. This is not for the uncommitted or faint at heart. But if you desire to know God more deeply through His Word and know His church more fully around the world, then please join us for Secret Church."

Calvary Campus Welcome Team & Deacon of the Week
By: Charles Uptain

Dear Deacons,
The deacon body has been involved for some time with campus greeting on Sunday mornings through the “deacons of the week”. We want to formalize this responsibility a little more. Attached below you will find documents to help explain the need for a campus welcome team and how the deacons will help meet this need. If you have questions of your role, please call me at the church. As before, the top name on the deacon of the week list will be in charge of placement and communication for the other deacons that serve with you.
We discussed this at our short-notice meeting last night after church. Thank you to all who were able to come hear this in person. We will start this new campus welcome team this Sunday.
**One other note, when you look at the deacons of the week list, you will see some names highlighted. These men have responsibilities during worship that keep them from fulfilling the responsibilities of a campus welcome team member. I will find permanent replacements for these men and will let the leader of the week know who to expect to serve in their place.
Calvary Campus Welcome Team
Deacon of the Week List
Thanks.
Charles Uptain
