Prayer Partner Prayer Requests for October 2017
By: Caren Coleson

Prayer Partner Prayer Requests for October 2017
Pastoral Ministry – Paul Thompson
Our India mission team departs on the 29th … please pray for our safety, our health, and most of all for our Gospel effectiveness. Pray also that God will give me the right words as I have opportunity to teach, preach, and share the gospel face-to-face. Our team is Tyler Campbell, Katie Lilly, Gail McCoy, David Glover, and me.
Pray for our missionary friends, Bill and Merrilee as well. Pray we are a real benefit and blessing to them and other Christians while we are there.
Please pray for Alex as he begins his final season of basketball at Samford. Pray that he’d love Jesus as much as he loves basketball.
Please pray for Sarah as she continues to adjust to college life (and all our other young freshmen out there!)
And thanks for praying for Mark and his recent dental adventure! He did great and they were able to fix his broken front tooth, get all the x-rays they wanted, thoroughly clean his teeth, and fill a few cavities. It was a great success!
Finally, please pray for Charles and Dan as they preach the Word these next two weeks in my absence.
I love you all and can’t wait to be back in the pulpit in a couple of weeks!
Executive Pastor – Charles Uptain
Thanks for praying for your church and especially the pastors and staff.
Prayer Requests:
Pray for me as I prepare to preach in both morning services on Sunday, October 1.
Pray for the Guatemala and Argentina Mission Trips that begin on October 25.
Pray for our church families to use Halloween as an outreach to the many families that will be out in our neighborhoods on October 31.
Pray for our student ministry. Pray God continues to use the students to be a light in their schools.
Pray for the families of our church. God has given us a great responsibility to raise up the next generation of Christians. Pray moms and dads display God’s glory to their children in every area of their life.
Worship Pastor – Matthew Dorsey
We have been very blessed to finally arrive in Dothan. Getting started in a new position is always filled with challenges, but the Calvary family has been very helpful in making this transition a smooth one for me and my family.
Pray for Calvary – My desire is for our services to be filled with the sound of the congregational singing, faithful preaching, and fervent prayer. For this to be a reality we must gather in the overflow of our personal walks and worship from the week. We will not sing boldly the truths of the gospel if we are not worshiping with those truths in the everyday ebb and flow of life. We will not listen intently and be changed by the preached Word if we are not living in a posture of repentance and faith toward the God of the Bible. We will not pray pleasing prayers if we are not filled with the truth and have a clear understanding of our finite posture in this life. Please pray that worship of Lord Jesus will be the defining mark of our Church family.
Pray for the music team of Calvary – My goal for our team is to lead worship not to perform. Music is a tool to aid in worship not that which should be worshipped. Pray that we will love God and his glory more than ourselves and our glory. Pray for the Spirit of God to unify us in our service. Pray that all our team members would sense the gravity of our service and therefore the need to prepare and be faithful in attendance.
Pray for my family – for my children to settle into school, catch up on studies, make godly friends, love serving at Calvary and to love the Lord; for Alyssa and I to be able to lead the children well through this transition, have time to spend with each other and love the Lord more than ever before.
Discipleship Ministry – Dan Tankersley
Please pray for Calvary as the Apostle Paul prayed for the Ephesian church:
Ephesians 3:14-19 (ESV)
For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being,so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
Pray specifically for:
-Life Group Leaders
-Romans study
-Transformation of lives into Christ-likeness at Calvary
- Increasing passion and focus on mission at Calvary
- Increasing love for God and others at Calvary
- Increasing joy in the Lord
-A culture of discipleship to continue to take root at Calvary
-Lives tobe impactedthroughFCA at Girard
-Lives to be impactedthroughCamp ROC
-Wisdom for church leadership
Senior Adult Ministry – Patty Farrington
Pastoral Care – Woody Farrington
Prayer Partners, thank you for your faithfulness to pray for our church and for each ministry.
Thank you for praying for our senior adults. We have many facing challenging health issues at this time.
Please pray for those senior adults who are facing the end of life but continue to have much joy and thankfulness for all the Lord has done for them. Please pray for family members as they provide care.
Please pray for our Life Group leaders as they prepare and teach Romans.
Please pray for the ministry at Westside Terrace Health and Rehab facility. Our worship service there continues to grow. Pray for us as we share the love of Jesus each week.
Thank you for praying for our family. We are so thankful for each prayer offered on our behalf. Thank you for praying for Woody and his family while in NYC. Pray for Woody and I as we plan visits and safe travels. Please pray for the safe arrival our newest grandson in January!

Resources for Parents of Preschoolers
By: Amanda Trammell

Here are some of our favorite articles and resources to help you in raising children who love God.
Twenty-Two Six Parenting
Tools for raising kidswho love God and love others.
Put This On Your Calendarfrom Verge Network
"I’ve always been bothered by the amount of time we (me included) are willing to spend planning, prioritizing, brainstorming, etc… as it relates to our business versus the amount of time we are willing to spend doing the same as it relates to our marriage and family. It’s really foolish if you think about it. Compare what we have to lose in both areas. In business, a few bucks. In family, a few generations."
On Mission With Your Children from Verge Network
"No one is better positioned or equipped to share the gospel with a child
than his or her mom and dad. The sheer amount of time spent with
their children gives parents a great opportunity to declare and demonstrate
the gospel consistently. Because parents know their children best,
they also know best how to communicate the gospel to them."
Sanctification And Marriage from Verge Network
"Hear this theology – marriage is a beautiful thing that only reaches what it was designed to
bethrough the methodology of a painful process. You’ll never hear that on a jeweler’s
commercial! The surrounding culture is trying to sell you the kingdom of self,
filled with comfort, pleasure, and ease."
Three Steps To Raising Disciples From The Verge Network
"As a parent, God has entrusted you with a tremendous privilege and responsibility.
The Bible speaks frequently to parents offering encouragement, wisdom and instruction.
Before Shannon and I had kids I remember having a conversation about how we
would be different than our friends who were letting their kids drive the family’s schedule and priorities. We vowedto be different, that was until we actually had our first kid."
Praying With Your Kids From Faith Gateway
"It doesn’t need to be a sermon or full of fancy words likebetrothedandhither.Just say what’s on your mind, “I’m having a hard day God, will you help me?”Then pray for each of the kids. Letting them hear you pray for them is a powerful thing. It shows them that they are loved in a deep and lasting way when mom asks for help from the Father whoknows their deepest heart."
D6Splink Resources
"Splink is a simple way to link your family together spiritually.
Through FREE weekly emails packed with ideas, Splink helps
you and your family engage in conversation. Whether it’s making memories
or having fun together, Splink allows you to capture those teachable
moments to impress spiritual truths and life lessons on your kids.
No matter where you are, there’s always time to Splink!"
Secret Church by David Platt
"When we think of 'church' in America, we think of going to meet at a building, singing, praying and hearing a message from a pastor or teacher. But in many places around the world, "church" meets in a home, an apartment, and sometimes even in secret. Many times there are just a few believers who know and follow Christ.
Secret Church is our 'house church' where we meet periodically for an intense time of Bible study—lasting 6+ hours—including a time of prayer for our brothers and sisters across the globe who are facing persecution and for those who have still not heard the gospel. This is not for the uncommitted or faint at heart. But if you desire to know God more deeply through His Word and know His church more fully around the world, then please join us for Secret Church."

From Our Senior Pastor
By: Paul Thompson

We were all disappointed to have to cancel our Marriage and Family Conference with Dr. Danny Akin, but as you know, the foul winter weather in the Carolinas made it impossible for him to get to us. We have rescheduled Dr. Akin for January of 2017. Meanwhile, we have considered both the great need for a marriage-building event coupled with the obvious desire of people for one (we had over 100 registered for the conference!), and decided to take advantage of an exciting opportunity for enriching the lives of our married couples. On February 19th and 20th we’ll be tuning in for the Live Watch Party of The Mingling of Souls: God’s Design for Love, Marriage, Sex & Redemption by pastor, author, and speaker, Matt Chandler. Many of you know Matt from his books and his teaching from The Village Church. Matt is one of the best, sharpest, most influential young pastors in America today and one of my favorites. I hope you will make every effort to be here and that you will use this event as a missional opportunity to engage your friends and co-workers and invite them to come with you. This is also a great event for engaged couples who are looking to build a sound foundation for the future. While I hate we won’t get to hear Dr. Akin this year, I am simultaneously thrilled at the opportunity to participate in this event. For registration info, go to our website or call the church office.
On another note, for the last few weeks we have been addressing the theme of “comissional” living. Each week, we have been building on that theme by adding practical application to the clear Gospel mandate of the New Testament. My encouragement to you as you listen and wrestle with the biblical challenges presented each week is this: Let’s be doers of the Word and not hearers only. We are all called to be missionaries where we are. But you are not alone. You are a missionary that is part of a family of missionaries called to make disciples. And if you haven’t been living as a full-time missionary up until this point, the next best time to start is now!
Honored to serve you,
Pastor Paul
