Prayer Partner Prayer Requests for March 2019

Prayer Partner Prayer Requests for March 2019
Pastoral Ministry – Paul Thompson
Thank you so much for faithfully lifting my family and me up before the Lord!
This month we celebrate a huge event: The wedding of our son Daniel to Hannah. Please pray for all the details of the wedding ceremony to be God-glorifying and Gospel-declaring. Pray that Daniel and Hannah will enjoy a sacred day and that the vows they make will be given with all the commitment they have and empowered by the Holy Spirit!
The first Sunday of March also marks my 7th anniversary as Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church. I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve this church! I’m thankful for the patience and grace given through my imperfections and missteps, as well as the love and support shown to me.
Please pray that as I begin year 8 that God would give me clear guidance and direction for the future. Pray that I would see what He wants me to see and want what He wants for our church, our city, and beyond. As I have recently turned 50, I am more committed than ever to finish well and lead well. Pray that both would be so. I am praying that these coming years will be the best we have ever seen. Pray that God would put a dream in our hearts here at Calvary that only He can fulfill. Pray that we will want to accomplish big things for God and that we will be willing to attempt big things for Him!
Executive Pastor – Charles Uptain
Pray for our Guatemala mission trip scheduled for March 23-28. We have a team of 8 people who will work in the public schools in Guatemala City as well as train our church partner in Zone 21 of Guatemala City. Pray for safety and that the Gospel message will be accepted and believed.
Pray for the financial health of Calvary. We have put forth a challenging budget with 19.5 % of every dollar going straight to missions. This makes the everyday management/ministry of the church very difficult when we are behind in giving. Please pray God touches all of us with what we should give, so we can surpass our budget commitments in the coming months.
Worship Ministry – Matthew Dorsey
9And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, 10so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, 11filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.Philippians 1:9-11(ESV)
Please join me in praying that our (Calvary’s) love may abound with knowledge and discernment! Like banks of a river, knowledge and discernment will keep our love flow helpful and life-giving.Love with no defining boundaries is like a river out of its banks, creating havoc and destruction. Knowledge and discernment will help us approve of and do those things that are most beneficial to our families, our church family, and the world.
Please continue to pray for our family, specifically for wisdom, ministry, parenting, freedom from burdens, strength and rest. We love and appreciate our church family. Please let me know how I can pray for you and your family.
Discipleship Ministry – Dan Tankersley
Thanks for your prayers!
Please join me in praying that our study of 2nd Corinthians will lead the people of Calvary to find increasing joy in Christ. Pray that we will come to a deeper understanding of what it means to be a “new creation” inChristand that we take ownership of our role as His ambassadors and ministers of reconciliation. Pray also for Life Group leaders!
As a personal request, please pray for Anna and I (and our family) as we welcome a baby girl on Monday (3-4-19)!
Children’s Ministry – Zach Daniels
Thank youfor all of your prayers!
Please for Calvary Kids in the following ways:
Pray for our leaders who weekly pour their lives into our kids, and please pray for more leaders to rise up.
Pray for our boys and girls first through fifth grade.
Pray for our parents.
Pray for our Dad and Kids Campout happening March 8-9.
Pray for VBS and all that it entails. Specifically pray that we will get most of our leaders in place this month.
Preschool Ministry – Joyce Alexander
God has been truly blessing Calvary with young families with preschool aged children. This was and is the Scripture that we pray regularly in regard to Preschool at Calvary:
Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, 21to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21 (ESV)
For Life Group—I’m thankful for the number of young families who have been attending. Our attendance ranges between 70-100 per week. We have created the third one-year old class. Today, I count 12 more babies that will be born between now and September. Please pray for our teachers as they prepare and serve each week. Also, please pray that we locate two adults for assistant teachers in our older 2-year-old class and our 3-year-old class. Because you prayed, we filled our Kindergarten teacher positions.
VIPs needed— I’m thankful for the faithful volunteers who serve in this ministry. We are blessed with those who are able and available. Please pray that we could recruit more to serve in this capacity. We are looking for new VIPs all the time.
Personal Request—I just returned from teaching three times in Montgomery, Enterprise and Bay Minette about VBS. I am scheduled to teach in our SABA clinic on March 21. Please pray for continued good health and stamina for me to fulfill my obligations to our church and to our association.
Senior Adult Ministry – Randy Hunt
Please pray for our Senior adults, there are so many involved in ministry both here at church and in the community. Pray that we would keep our eyes open for other areas for us to minister. Please pray for our Senior adult Life Groups that they will minister to their groups and encourage us to be involved in every aspect of our church. I desire for our children and grandchildren to worship and see us worshipping across generations! Please pray for me that I will be sensitive to the leadership of the Holy Spirit in all that I plan. Remember VBS is just around the corner!

Resources for Parents of Preschoolers
By: Amanda Trammell

Here are some of our favorite articles and resources to help you in raising children who love God.
Twenty-Two Six Parenting
Tools for raising kidswho love God and love others.
Put This On Your Calendarfrom Verge Network
"I’ve always been bothered by the amount of time we (me included) are willing to spend planning, prioritizing, brainstorming, etc… as it relates to our business versus the amount of time we are willing to spend doing the same as it relates to our marriage and family. It’s really foolish if you think about it. Compare what we have to lose in both areas. In business, a few bucks. In family, a few generations."
On Mission With Your Children from Verge Network
"No one is better positioned or equipped to share the gospel with a child
than his or her mom and dad. The sheer amount of time spent with
their children gives parents a great opportunity to declare and demonstrate
the gospel consistently. Because parents know their children best,
they also know best how to communicate the gospel to them."
Sanctification And Marriage from Verge Network
"Hear this theology – marriage is a beautiful thing that only reaches what it was designed to
bethrough the methodology of a painful process. You’ll never hear that on a jeweler’s
commercial! The surrounding culture is trying to sell you the kingdom of self,
filled with comfort, pleasure, and ease."
Three Steps To Raising Disciples From The Verge Network
"As a parent, God has entrusted you with a tremendous privilege and responsibility.
The Bible speaks frequently to parents offering encouragement, wisdom and instruction.
Before Shannon and I had kids I remember having a conversation about how we
would be different than our friends who were letting their kids drive the family’s schedule and priorities. We vowedto be different, that was until we actually had our first kid."
Praying With Your Kids From Faith Gateway
"It doesn’t need to be a sermon or full of fancy words likebetrothedandhither.Just say what’s on your mind, “I’m having a hard day God, will you help me?”Then pray for each of the kids. Letting them hear you pray for them is a powerful thing. It shows them that they are loved in a deep and lasting way when mom asks for help from the Father whoknows their deepest heart."
D6Splink Resources
"Splink is a simple way to link your family together spiritually.
Through FREE weekly emails packed with ideas, Splink helps
you and your family engage in conversation. Whether it’s making memories
or having fun together, Splink allows you to capture those teachable
moments to impress spiritual truths and life lessons on your kids.
No matter where you are, there’s always time to Splink!"
Secret Church by David Platt
"When we think of 'church' in America, we think of going to meet at a building, singing, praying and hearing a message from a pastor or teacher. But in many places around the world, "church" meets in a home, an apartment, and sometimes even in secret. Many times there are just a few believers who know and follow Christ.
Secret Church is our 'house church' where we meet periodically for an intense time of Bible study—lasting 6+ hours—including a time of prayer for our brothers and sisters across the globe who are facing persecution and for those who have still not heard the gospel. This is not for the uncommitted or faint at heart. But if you desire to know God more deeply through His Word and know His church more fully around the world, then please join us for Secret Church."

From Our Senior Pastor
By: Paul Thompson

We were all disappointed to have to cancel our Marriage and Family Conference with Dr. Danny Akin, but as you know, the foul winter weather in the Carolinas made it impossible for him to get to us. We have rescheduled Dr. Akin for January of 2017. Meanwhile, we have considered both the great need for a marriage-building event coupled with the obvious desire of people for one (we had over 100 registered for the conference!), and decided to take advantage of an exciting opportunity for enriching the lives of our married couples. On February 19th and 20th we’ll be tuning in for the Live Watch Party of The Mingling of Souls: God’s Design for Love, Marriage, Sex & Redemption by pastor, author, and speaker, Matt Chandler. Many of you know Matt from his books and his teaching from The Village Church. Matt is one of the best, sharpest, most influential young pastors in America today and one of my favorites. I hope you will make every effort to be here and that you will use this event as a missional opportunity to engage your friends and co-workers and invite them to come with you. This is also a great event for engaged couples who are looking to build a sound foundation for the future. While I hate we won’t get to hear Dr. Akin this year, I am simultaneously thrilled at the opportunity to participate in this event. For registration info, go to our website or call the church office.
On another note, for the last few weeks we have been addressing the theme of “comissional” living. Each week, we have been building on that theme by adding practical application to the clear Gospel mandate of the New Testament. My encouragement to you as you listen and wrestle with the biblical challenges presented each week is this: Let’s be doers of the Word and not hearers only. We are all called to be missionaries where we are. But you are not alone. You are a missionary that is part of a family of missionaries called to make disciples. And if you haven’t been living as a full-time missionary up until this point, the next best time to start is now!
Honored to serve you,
Pastor Paul
