Lottie Moon Christmas Offering
Every penny of the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering goes to support missionaries as they share the Gospel over seas. This is an important effort in the mission of Calvary as we prioritize disciple making both in Dothan and throughout the world. Would you consider helping us reach our Lottie Moon Christmas Offering goal of $120,000.00 this year?

From Our Senior Pastor
By: Paul Thompson

Calvary Family,
In this busiest, but sweetest of seasons, let me offer a few thoughts to help center our focus on Christ Jesus and his birth:
We live in a city full of churches. I pass several on my way to the office every day. But we also live in a city full of lostness. And if simply having church services and programs was sufficient to reach all those who are lost, we surely would have done so already. The fact there are many churches and still much lostness ought to tell us something: We have to go and tell and not simply hope they will come and see. As you shop, work, and live your life among many people who either a) are not “in Christ”, or at least b) are not connected in a meaningful way with the body of Christ (unchurched or dechurched), will you make it a priority to look for opportunities to talk about Jesus? Will you also look for opportunities (or make opportunities) to invite people to our services of worship over Christmas? In particular, invite people to Christmas Eve at Calvary. We are planning a beautiful service to clearly convey the Good News of the birth of Jesus. Let’s fill our Fellowship Center that night and pray that people will come to Christ!
We set a very ambitious goal for our International Missions (“Lottie Moon”) Offering this year: $120,000.00. That’s $20,000.00 more than last year’s ambitious goal! Someone asked me this week if I really thought we could make it. My response was this: In setting that goal (and ever since) I have never questioned if we can make it. My only question has been if we will make our goal. I believe with all my heart that we can. But I know it will not be easy and it certainly will not be automatic. Some things will have to change for each of us. Some spending will have to lessen. Maybe some gifts won’t be given. Hopefully some sacrifices made. But as the spiritual darkness around us grows and the opportunity to be light in dark places necessarily grows with it, I don’t want us to shirk back. Many of us have read about the shortfall in missions giving in our denomination that has caused us to have to call missionaries home from the front lines. I hate that. And while one church can’t remedy the problem, we can do our part! So I ask you to prayerfully, thoughtfully, intentionally, and sacrificially give this year to support the ministry of the gospel where it is needed the most.
Finally, if your Christmas season is anything like mine, your days and nights will get filled to the margins. In all the busyness and activity, don’t forget this simple invitation: Come let us adore Him! Take time personally and make time corporately to come and adore Christ the King! Seek times away from the demands of work, and even family to get alone with God. And make attendance at worship a God-honoring priority. Pray that God the Father will give you a fresh encounter with Jesus His Son this Christmas season!
I love you and am honored to be your pastor!
Paul

Angel Tree Project
By: Amanda Trammell

Angel Tree Project
Angel Tree is a program of Prison Fellowship that reaches out to the children of inmates and their families with the love of Christ. Our church family has adopted 60 children. Each child has two angels on the tree. One angel has their clothing and shoe size listed and the other has a toy listed. You do not have to purchase both gifts, but if want to, both of the child’s angels will be hung together on the tree to make it easier. Remember these are gifts from their incarcerated parent, please only purchase one gift not to exceed $25.00 per angel. Angels will be on the tree for adoption in the Fellowship Center and Sanctuary Foyers beginning Sunday, November 22.
Gifts are due in the Recreation Outreach Center by Friday, December 11.
The Angel Tree Party is Wednesday, December 16 at 5:00 pm in the Fellowship Center.
