From Our Worship Pastor
By: Steve Chambers

Church Family,
Well, summer is in full swing and God is moving here atCalvary. Aren’t you glad that the Lord doesn’t take the summer off! What a wonderful time of worship this past Sunday as Dr. Bobby Welch shared with us his story and we celebrated the freedom we have here in America. It was a good reminder in such a difficult time that our God is still on the throne. It has been such a blessing to worship together in our new summer schedule of one service. The music especially has been fantastic (….that’s a joke….kinda). I just want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who serves in the music ministry here at Calvary. These folks serve with all their hearts and it is a joy to serve alongside them. We are truly blessed to have such a wonderful group of humble, faithful folks leading us.
I was talking to my son, Max, this past week as we drove around Dothan running some errands. We talked about the recent Supreme Court decisions and the difficult times that seem to be upon the future and us. I have to admit it took some careful thought when trying to explain what’s going on in our nation and around the world to a 14 year old. As we sat at a red light on the circle Max said, “Dad, check it out!” As I looked up to where he was pointing we saw a beautiful rainbow stretched across the sky. “So what does that mean, dad?” he asked facetiously. I thought for a moment and told him that God is reminding us that He is still on His throne, He is still gracious and merciful, and He is still true to His promises. That is the reminder we all need, Church. No matter what happens around us, no matter the circumstances, no matter how disappointing, God is still on His throne and we are still called to take the Gospel to the world.
24 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God. Acts 20:24
This passage of scripture has gripped me recently and will not let go. Though there will be persecution, though it will be difficult, though there will be trials…we cannot be moved from the Truth, and we must give our lives for the sake of spreading the Gospel. Our motivation is not popularity, comfort or even politics. Not tradition or programs. Our motivation is the Gospel and being obedient to share it. Church, we must be about making disciples. We cannot slumber. Take heart! Jesus is the hope of the world.
Rise, Church, Rise!
In Christ,
Steve Chambers

Vacation Bible School Results: VBS has come and gone and it was everything you would expect…a week full of hard work and faithful, Gospel engagement. Calvary had an average of 493 people enrolled this year. We took up several offerings for local ministries and collected over $500 for Graffiti 2 Ministries in NYC. Most important of all the Gospel was shared with over 200 children, with several professions of faith and a couple baptisms to happen in the coming weeks/months. I am very thankful for the hard work, energy, and faithful service provided by the teachers, helpers, and students. Next years theme is already out and before you know it we will be planning for another great week of VBS!Pool Party Night: July 1 we are going to the Blaxton’s house for a pool party!
