From Our Senior Pastor
By: Paul Thompson

I am excited to announce that Calvary will soon be making the move to a single Sunday morning worship service format. For this season in the life of our church, I believe this change will afford us the following benefits:
Better use of resources during the summer months when more people tend to travel, be out of town, etc.A renewed sense of church as ‘family’ as we all gather together for a periodThe ability to reconnect with others who have been attending a different serviceGreater excitement and enthusiasm in worshipBetter witness to guests who come into a room that is fullA focus on unity and harmony – especially as we work through a Bible book (Ephesians) together in worship and Life Groups in the FallHere are a few of the most frequently asked questions we have received:
When does the schedule change take effect? Our plan is to begin the new schedule on Sunday, May 24 (Memorial Day weekend). What time will the new service be?The combined worship service will be at 10:00AM. Life Groups willbegin at 8:45AM. This way, everything basically shifts on Sundaymornings by 45 minutes later or earlier depending upon which service you previously attended.Where will the service meet? Our plan is to meet in the sanctuary unless there is a special service thatrequires the use of the Fellowship Center (e.g. “God and Country”Sunday)What will the ‘style’ of music be?We will continue to utilize a blended style of worship music that isbiblcally sound and that involves as many people in worship as possible. Will there be a choir?Yes – with the exception of the month of July. (The choir will be on break.)What happens if the sanctuary is not large enough for fall attendanceWe will be carefully monitoring attendance patterns so that we will know when we need to make an adjustment. In the fall, we will add back the two pews at the rear of the sanctuary. This and a few other measures will help us increase seating capacity. If attendance requires it, we may consider meeting together in the Fellowship Center for a period of time. When will we return to two services? Our plan is to begin the new schedule on Memorial Day weekend (May 24) and continue meeting together in 1 service at least until we have completed the Ephesians series we will all be doing together in the Fall (That takes us through November). Together with staff and deacons, I will be formulating a next stage plan before that series ends.If you have any thoughts, questions, or concerns, feel free to contact the church office and speak to me or any of the ministry staff. I’m looking forward to a great summer and fall at Calvary!
For His Kingdom and His Glory,
Pastor Paul

Assistance for Corey McAlister
By: Anne Register

Update and suggestions on how to help Corey McAlister:
Corey is getting ready to leave U.A.B. and move into an apartment across the street from the hospital with his mother for the next 4-6 weeks to continue recovering from his double lung transplant. He will now begin to receive a twice a week, up to 5 hours per session, post recovery treatment. His recovery team at U.A.B. has asked Calvary to assist in the following ways:
1. Provide the family with gift cards to Arby's, McAlister's Deli, or Newk's resturants (they are within walking distance and the family has no car). You can either drop the cards off at the R.O.C. anytime before May 22nd, mail directly to Corey, or take them to him yourself.
2. Contine to visit him often; however, Corey's recovery team has asked that we call before we go to make sure he is not having one of his treatments at the time of our visit. They have also asked that we take Corey on as many outings (such as Walmart, the mall, movie, park etc. ) as possible so that he can become accustomed to being back in a public setting.
Thank you all for loving Corey so much. Each one of you are being a witness to his family and to the entire staff at U.A.B. Many people have commented about how utterly amazing Calvary has been to Corey!

A Note From Michael Brooks
Dear Calvary,
As our one year anniversary approaches we want to express thankfulness and gratitude. Calvary is a blessing in our lives and in the life of our family. You all have been so generous with us financially and in providing resources for the Children and Families Ministry. More importantly, we have come to know you as a congregation, and many of you as individuals, and this has been a refreshing and encouraging season in our life. So, thank you for the opportunity to serve and share life with you all and we look forward to even more rewarding life together.
Sincerely, Michael and Rashele Brooks.
