From Our Senior Pastor
By: Paul Thompson

Another year is beginning and I am reminded again of one of the most challenging quotes I’ve ever seen:
A year from now you will wish you had started today.
– Karen Lamb
That’s a great motivation for anyone knowing they need to get healthy or fit, eat better, or perhaps step up their parenting or commitment to family life. It’s also a great challenge to us spiritually. I don’t want to be in the same place with God this time next year. I want to know Him better, love Him more, and be more like His Son. I want to grow and continue growing up. I hope you want the same.
I also want our church to continue to grow healthier and stronger. I want us to be more deeply rooted in the Word and have a Biblical view of the world and every issue our culture presents. I want us to be full of grace towards each other and the lost. I want us to be a faithful community of growing disciples who make disciples. I want us to be generous, always praying and asking how and where we can serve and how we might give ourselves away. With increasing effect, I want us to carry God’s mission for His glory to Dothan and the world.
What does God want you to begin today?
Perhaps it’s a commitment to daily time in His Word. If so, you will find the Bible reading guide on the back of our Sunday bulletins to be of great help. Also, go to or the welcome table for a copy of the plan. Perhaps you need to recommit yourself to faithful, active participation in His church and in a small group. Perhaps you need to find a mentor to disciple you this year, life-on-life. Maybe it’s time you find someone to begin discipling. Maybe it will be a lost friend or co-worker that you begin to intentionally pour your life into with the intent of ultimately sharing Jesus and leading them to faith in Him. Maybe it’s a new or not very well-grounded Christian that needs a mentor to help them begin to grow in Christ. Whatever it is – whatever you want to see happen in your life and the lives of others in 2015 – start today! A year from now, you’ll be glad you did!
Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
- Psalm 90:12
Pastor Paul

2015 Preschool Ministry At A Glance
By: Joyce Alexander

Preschool Ministry
I feel so blessed to call you my friends and family at Calvary. Our goal is to teach Preschoolers: God Made Me, God Loves Me, and I Can Love God. We do this on Sunday mornings in Life Groups, in ClubHouse, and on Wednesday evenings. We want to continue helping parents celebrate spiritual milestones such as Parent Child Dedication Services, Family Devotions/Blessings, and praying together as a family.
As we look ahead to 2015, we are prayerfully considering:
Occasional parenting classes (schedule permitting)Occasional Recharge Events (a Parent’s Date Night)A possible Family RetreatWeekly relationship-building activities during the summer months. Our goal is to honor God in all that we do. We are looking forward to a great 2015! Let’s take the journey together.

2015 Children and Families Ministry At A Glance
By: Michael Brooks

Children and Families Ministry
As we look forward to the New Year and all the potential it possesses we must be cautious to use our resources wisely. We must remember to focus on what is major. Thus, for 2015 Calvary’s Children and Family ministries will focus on the heart and use the Parable of the Soils found in Matthew 13:3-9 as our guide.
So, as we contemplate activities and events, everything from VBS to Family Mission trips, the framework through which our actions will be filtered will be this parable. Why, you may ask? Because it focuses our attention on what kind of heart enters into the kingdom and produces fruit. To keep one’s heart free of distractions and receptive to the Gospel is akin to what God saw in King David…a man after His own heart!
I am excited about 2015 at Calvary. I believe God has much good in store for Dothan and for our world because of what he is doing in His people at Calvary. May we always seek His glory first, His kingdom first, and desire to be faithful in sharing the Gospel.

Student Ministry
I am very excited for the Students here at Calvary in 2015! Our emphasis this year will be on evangelism. We will incorporate this theme into the major events we offer all throughout the year. Students will have opportunities to learn how to share and defend their faith and be able to answer the basic questions of why they believe what they believe! 2015 brings with it a change in our summer schedule! We will be offering Beach Retreat early in June. Beach retreat is a great opportunity for our students to grow together and hear challenging messages from God’s word. I look forward to the year to come!
February 20-22 – Disciple Now – The lift tour is returning to Dothan! Spend a weekend with your closest friends in homes all around Dothan as we are challenged to be relentless in our pursuit of Jesus.
June 12-15 – Beach Retreat – We will spend an entire weekend relaxing on the beach while growing in relationship with each other and Jesus! Bring an extra swimsuit for the water park!
June 21-26 – Wired – Join us and 1000 other students from the Dothan area as we spend a week together doing missions all over our city. Each day we will spend at a mission site and every evening is capped off with an incredible worship service!
July – Student mission trip – Join us for a week as we seek to make Jesus known! We will minister to churches through song and students will have the opportunity to share Christ with children and teens at block parties and Back Yard Bible Club!
November – War Games – Join us for a weekend of capture the flag! Bring your Bible and your best camo as we seek to answer the question “Are you tough enough?”

2015 Senior Adult Ministry

Senior Adults
Senior Adult Ministry in 2015 will be filled with many opportunities! Sonshine Fellowship, Sonshine Singers, GAP, Vacation Bible School, Adopt A School, Meals on Wheels, Mission project for the National Peanut Festival Fair workers, Senior Adult Forgotten Angels, and Day and Week Long Travel time together are all opportunities that allow us to invite our lost neighbors and friends so that they may hear the Gospel message.
I am so excited about all that God has given us to do. Our time is short and we must be about our Fathers business.
“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that our labor is not in vain in the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 15:58

We will share together in mission opportunities in our city and surrounding areas.
