From the Senior Pastor
By: Paul Thompson

Leadership.
In every organization and whenever people are gathered together under the same banner, good leadership is essential. John Maxwell, expressing the centrality of leadership for any group or organization says, “Everything rises or falls on it.” Whether “everything” is true or not, it can hardly be debated how necessary good leadership is to any organization’s health and future. Someone has said, “Leadership is knowing what to do next, why it is important, and how to bring appropriate resources required for success.” If that concept of leadership is important in the secular world, how much more important is it in the church?
There’s no question that a healthy, unified church requires healthy unified leaders. We need leaders of faith who pray and obediently follow God’s leadership. We need leaders of integrity, vision, and dedication. Some of you reading this may be thinking. “What does this have to do with me? I’m not a leader. I’m just a member. You should be writing to deacons, teachers, and committee members.” While those groups of people are surely leaders in most definitions of the word, they are not our church’s only leaders! You see, leadership is not just about position, title, or recognition. It’s about something bigger:
Influence.
All leadership is influence. When your words, your service, and your attitude influence others, that’s leadership. And when your influence helps people understand where God wants them to be and you take the initiative to get them there by God’s means in reliance on God’s power, then that’s spiritual leadership.
If you are a person of spiritual influence or leadership at Calvary, I want to invite you (and your spouse, if applicable) to a special Leadership Banquet on Sunday, November 9th at 6:00 pm in the Fellowship Center. If you teach , if you lead, if you volunteer, if you serve, if you have (or desire to have) influence in the lives of the members of Calvary, I want you to come.
Together, we will celebrate the God-given successes of the past year, re-focus on our Gospel-centered mission, and consider 4 essential commitments that – if embraced – I believe God will use to continue revitalizing us for a God-honoring future.
“Let us be banded together as one man; let us contend earnestly for the faith once delivered to the saints; let us pray with fervor, let us live in holiness, let us preach constantly, and preach with fire, and let us so live, that we may impress our age, and leave our footprints on the sands of time.”
