From the Executive Pastor
By: Charles Uptain

As Pastor Paul finishes up his vacation this week, I thought I would use this space in the newsletter to talk about a re-launch of a treasured tradition in southern church life. We will begin fellowshipping together over a meal again in August. I am excited to see how God will use this meal as a part of our on-going disciple-making strategy. Relationship building makes up a large component of disciple-making, and this is what we hope the Midweek meal will enhance.
We are going to try a few things in conjunction with the meal to help spur us to reach out to one another and even champion the efforts of those who are seeking to honor God by getting involved in another person’s world. We will celebrate testimonies of God at work as church members are obedient to forming one-on-one discipling relationships. We will honor first time guests by giving them their mealfree and then report how many new guests we collectively brought for a given month in this newsletter.
We also want to see/hear true fellowship among believers. We want to ask you about your spiritual walk, hear you discussing what you have learned from God’s Word this week, meet a friend of yours from work who came with you to the meal, and genuinely feel the love of Christ being shared around the table. We want to see you scouring the room as you enter to find someone new to sit beside and strike up a new friendship. Just like everything else related to discipleship...we have to be intentional about our efforts of relationship building. Can you see how this will benefit us?
If that sounds like good use of an hour of your week, then we invite you and your family to join us for the Midweek Meal beginning August 20th at 5:00 pm, in the Fellowship Center.
Pastor Charles

August 2nd Sunday Night
On Sunday, August 10 at 6:00 pm in the Fellowship Center there will be a Children and Families Keynote that will cover ministry philosophy, new and re-worked ministry programs, partnerships with parents, and hopefully time for Q and A’s. We will also work through an overview of the Children and Families survey. This will be an informative night meant to encourage and clarify. Please make every effort to attend even if you do not have a child in the Children’s Ministry.
Immediately following we will have a homemade ice cream fellowship in the Fellowship Center. Please plan to sign up in your Life Group to bring homemade ice cream by Sunday, August 3.

We are looking for people that would be willing to go to Girard Middle School on November 19, 2014, February 25 and May 13, 2015 from 7:45 am-8:15 am and speak to a class of 7th or 8th grade students. You would be asked to tell the students about your job and/or your lives and what it took to get where you are right now. The majority of students need a role model, and we think you would be a great one! We’re looking for all kinds of people to volunteer; you don’t have to have a job that requires a college degree! Please contact Anne at anne@calvarydothan.com as soon as possible if you would be willing to participate in this ministry to our community children at Girard Middle School.
