From the Senior Pastor
By: Paul Thompson

“I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.”
- Romans 1:16 (ESV)
Paul knew the power of the Gospel personally and intimately. For him, it was no mere theory or idea. It was not a moral code to be followed in human strength – he had spent his life on that path and knew that it was empty and ultimately death-bringing. Paul was bold and passionate about the Gospel because he had experienced it. God’s power had completely captured him and changed him. The differences between “Saul of Tarsus” and “Paul the Apostle” are no less than supernatural in nature. Paul experienced the God who chooses, calls out, and saves. He knew what it was to be a “new creation” with everything his old life once was to be dead and gone and for everything his life became to be new and from God. Paul was eager to share the proclamation of the story of God’s salvation because it intertwined with his story. It was his real and living testimony. Paul said:
“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
- Galatians 2:20 (ESV)
What about you? How has the Gospel changed you? How has the power of God been demonstrated in your life? How did you go from being outside of God’s family to being His child; from alien, stranger, and enemy to co-heir with Jesus? How did God take you from darkness to light; from spiritual death to new life? How did he capture your attention and then call you to follow Him? And how has the power of the Gospel continued to change you– just as God promised it would?
Over the next several weeks as we continue our series on the Gospel, I’d love for the body of believers at Calvary to be challenged and inspired by the stories of what God has done in the lives of us. If you have a story of God’s saving power and are willing to share it during a Sunday service, please let me hear from you as soon as possible. Email me ( or call the church office (792-5159).
"... you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”
- 1 Peter 2:9 (ESV)
Let’s proclaim Jesus!

Hello Calvary Family,

We will be having a church business meeting at9:15 AM on Sunday, June 22. You can go to this webpage ( to see the recommended changes to the Bylaws.

Just a point of order, if you attend the10:45service and want to participate in the business meeting, we will have a break right after the8:00service to hand out the business meeting documents. This will give you time to slip into the Sanctuary and be a part of the business of the church.
