From the Senior Pastor
By: Paul Thompson

If you’re an average American you’re going to live about 25,550 days. If you live to your 70th birthday you will spend 23 years of your life sleeping. You will spend 17 years of your life working. You will spend 11 years of your life watching TV and playing. You will spend 6 years of your life traveling. You will spend 6 years of your life eating. You will spend 2 years of your life getting ready. You will spend 1 year of your life going to church.
Is that really what a successful or even a significant life is all about?
What are you going to do with your life? Will you waste it or invest it? Will it be lost in purposeless pursuits or the passionate pursuit of God? Will it be rewarded or regretted? You make those decisions not once, but many times over, day after day.
Jesus said it like this. “What will a man give in exchange for his soul?” All through life you’re exchanging your life for something. Every bit of time you use is an exchange that cannot be undone. A friend of mine said, “Don’t waste time, because time is the stuff life is made of”.
How are you going to use your time/life? Will you use it to leave a legacy? If I were to ask you, “What do you want to be remembered for?” what would you say?
You see, your life matters. A lot. It matters to you and to those you love. It matters to your church and your community. Most of all it matters to God! And the influence/impact of your life can live long after you if you live well – that is if you live in a way that displays a passion for God and a passion for God’s Story – the Gospel.
The memory of the righteous is a blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot.
-Proverbs 10:7
To help ensure your life (and memory) is a blessing to others and one that God will bless, ask yourself these diagnostic questions today:
What does God expect from me?Think: “Do my expectations for me match God’s?”Is loving God my priority?Think: “Is it clear to others that I love God?”What am I doing right now to insure I leave a Godly legacy?Think: “A year from now, I’ll wish I had started today.”Am I focused on a life goal and moving towards it’s completion?Think: “Can I write my life’s mission on a business card? A bumper sticker?”Remember: What matters is not the duration of your life but the donation of yourlife.
George Bernard Shaw said:
“This is the true joy in life – being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as amighty one; being a force of nature instead of a feverish, selfish, little clod ofailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy. I’m of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community and as long as I live, it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can. I want to be thoroughly used up when I die. The harder I work, the more I live. I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no brief candle for me. It’s sort of a splendid torch which I’ve got a hold of for the moment and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.”
May we all burn brightly for God’s glory and the sake of the Gospel!
See you Sunday!
Pastor Paul
